Astonishing in its resonant evocation of new and old roots in English folk, “Wench, Witch and Motherly” conjures songs so timeless they feel like they were written a hundred years before and a hundred years after, running through the woods, streams and rivers of our imagination.
Raised from the depths of illness as she moved between continents to return to her roots.
This dark, intimate album refocuses the perspective and narrative around maligned women, echoing wintry themes of isolation and separation, while revering nature and our place in it. Betty's voice brings a warmth to cushion the awkward angles of winter with adept acoustic guitar playing and accompaniments sprinkled in - shruti box, fiddle, percussive noise, and found sound.
